Consider this disc: a collective in which producers Tucker Martine and Lee Townsend are listed along with drummer Matt Chamberlain and Bill Frisell, even though sidemen include trumpet player Ron Miles and Viktor Krauss. “Futuristic roots music” is how Townsend describes it, and there’s no question we’re in a different sound world... The disc, then, is a full acknowledgment that cut and paste has becoming a jazz art form all its own. ( J.S.)
